The Journey of a Cult is often characterized by distinct phases.

1. The Core Concept

An inspiring figure or figureheads introduce a revolutionary approach that promises a solution for struggling players.

And so it goes. They’re getting ready to confront the system down in Brisbane. The gunships are circling. Conflict emerges from within. One individual, exposed, anxious, the words HIGH RELEASE POINT displayed prominently as a symbol, has emerged into view and is being led away under a blanket to a different team at Derbyshire.

Do you recall the start, when optimism reigned? The era of early Bazball, of Bazball without brains.

2. The Honeymoon Phase

Cult leaders offer a fresh beginning, a brighter tomorrow, camaraderie, success together who all believe in the philosophy.

What was this thing at first? Players celebrating basking in glory. Ink. Muscles. Focus. Peak performance vibes. Of course, England’s players often say Bazball doesn’t actually exist, ironically as it’s denied, what was that spectacle?

Yet it’s clear what it is. It’s the batsman attempting a move so unconventional it’s beyond belief. It’s the excitement of the leader at his peak, a look that says: pensive Nordic god, rugged appearance, untamed style, so authentically Modern Savage you wouldn’t be surprised to glance over and notice he’s fielding in the field shirtless and cradling a wild salmon.

It’s the batsman often seen to talk in press conferences, resembling a joyful figure smartly dressed, expressing thoughts like we are actively deconstructing the orange. Indeed, the energy, initially, was only good energy.

3. A New Life

Building period. Unity enforced via memorization of mantras. These ideas are often illogical as a loyalty check.

Am I alone? The criticism, the outrage, the sense of betrayal following the initial loss feels overblown, overdone. The batting collapsed on the field, as history shows. They were dominated defensively for a couple of hours when tactics failed, manipulated by Travis Head batting like England but better, adaptive to conditions, a performer excelling with aura.

Currently, we see the pile-on, the frustration, the view of the sport as a disgrace. The consensus is that England don’t just need to lose, they should be dismantled, to be cleansed, obliterated, destroyed through sheer skill of the pace attack, the low-fi orthodoxies of the veteran, seen enjoying successes with a bashful smile similar to getting a rewarding prize. What impact will this have?

4. External Conflict

Problems arise from failures in the plan. Yet, mistakes are denied. It turns to hostility externally.

In truth, a few days before from the second Test, we are at an intriguing moment in the lifespan of this thing. They might succeed in Brisbane in a blur of adrenal disruption. More likely, failure may follow. In case of defeat it appears we could be witnessing the final stage.

Prior to that, a couple of points to consider about this. Previously, during the initial excitement, of light and heat, I wrote an article labeling it a movement. Here lies the truth. It’s all cults. The approach was a phenomenon because cricket is a cult. In fact, English cricket has always been a cult, a group, a garden party, an insular community with a long history of ceremonial past defining it. Historically, this was a place where power and access are hoarded. It’s the colonial game of the nation, the early image-makers. And notably, the country is a phenomenon, a series of esoteric hierarchies, a royal family remains.

The players have been isolated in this system for years. Attempting to break free, to build a better atmosphere, they are just repeating their upbringing, creating another a bubble, a limited community, however with a new team and a leader who wants you to be yourself if you fit the mold.

Stay present. Run towards the danger. But no matter how fast and far you run, you remain stuck.

Considering this, it is perhaps the moment to have some sympathy for Bazball, to acknowledge its merits, which are significant. What does it represent? Encouraging expression. Defying norms. Batting aggressively|Attacking with
