Toy Story 5 Trailer Sets The Beloved Duo Against a Digital Device
Exactly 30 years after the original Toy Story film was released, establishing the animation giant as a major animation studio and introducing viewers to beloved characters like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a brief look into the plot but keeping viewers wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Toys
The preview reveals the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a brand new plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer avoids is why the sheriff is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and helping giveaway items find good homes.
Surely, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?
Connections from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The last thing Woody did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the badge attached to her outfit.
It is hoped she is still the key figure among the group.
